EXPERIENCE

The Associated Press; Phoenix                                                                        2013–Present
As a member of the western U.S. regional desk, I edit news stories for national and state wires from 13 states and oversee up to eight editors on supervisory shifts. I work collaboratively with a diverse team of journalists who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio and social. In addition, I coordinate with dozens of reporters to prepare obituaries for hundreds of public figures as well as handle the overnight AP West Twitter account.

Wire editor, Gannett; Phoenix 2013
As part of the Phoenix Design Studio, I used news judgment to select stories from the wire budget, wrote headlines, trimmed stories to fit space, as well as edited hundreds of stories for 11 Gannett newspapers, including the Reno Gazette-Journal and the Great Falls Tribune.

Copy editor, The Signal; Santa Clarita, Calif. 2012–2013
I edited all stories and designed the daily A1, news, opinion, sports and life sections. I also posted stories to the paper’s website each night.

Copy editor, New York Times Student Institute; Tucson, Ariz. Jan. 2012
I was one of 24 journalists from around the country selected to participate in the two-week institute, and one of two chosen for the copy desk. I was responsible for editing all the articles for the institute edition.

Editor-in-chief, Daily Wildcat; Tucson, Ariz. 2011
I was the chief representative for the Wildcat, a student publication. I supervised more than 150 employees on a five-day per week publishing schedule for a circulation of 10,000. I headed the team that received national recognition for its coverage of the Rep. Gabby Giffords shooting.
